TRAINING – The Real Professional Edge

One of the chief advantages of using union carpenters is the rigorous training they possess. Before they can carry the union label, these highly skilled craftsmen must complete years of training and pass rigorous testing that ensures their professional qualifications.

For the Ohio & Vicinity Regional Council of Carpenters, like many affiliates of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, the foundation of that training is in the joint apprenticeship training programs they sponsor in partnership with local and regional community colleges and the U.S. Department of Labor.

Working with the DOL and Cuyahoga Community College, for instance, OVRCC offers aspiring carpenters in Northeast Ohio a chance to earn an associates degree in carpentry that doubles as journey-level status in the building trades. The coursework includes such subjects as technical mathematics, safety and computer applications.

The hallmark of our regional council is three-fold: training, professionalism and partnerships for economic development.
